Canada Day weekend

Published by purpledragonfly under day to day, health

What do you have planned? Me? Not much. I woke up a few days ago with a very sore stiff neck and have been “self-medicating” since thursday. So far the only thing that has been helping is Gregg massaging my neck and shoulders in the evening. I did make an appointment for next week to get some physiotherapy. Hopefully that will help. I am so sick of always being in pain. If its not my neck its my shoulders or my back or my stupid tailbone. Then when I do feel better it start somewhere like my sciatic nerve or my allergies or….who knows! There is always something wrong. I’m tired of it. I just want to be pain-free. Even if its only for one day. Most people dont even realize the pain I’m in every day. Yes I smile and talk as if its just another day, but in actual fact, I am in pain. I’m in pain all the time, even in my sleep. Why dont I get help? Well I have. I have seen many doctors over the years and there is nothing that can fix me.

Mostly I need to exercise more and get in better shape. To do that sounds easy. Its not. I can workout for a day or two and then I’m back in bed with so much pain its unbearable. I try to keep going even with the pain and all it does its put me is such terrible agony and I just crawl into bed and cry. So what can I do? The only thing I can do so far is yoga. Anything else makes me dizzy. I can also to weights but again I have to go slow as to not get dizzy.

Oh well… This is life and I have to live it. As for my Canada Day, I plan to be lazy. Still working out the kinks on the family site. Plus I am counting the days till we are back in Mexico. I so need a vacation.

Summer time memories

Published by purpledragonfly under Summer

What do you think of when you think “summer”?

I remember going camping with my family when I was a kid. The beach at Skaha Lake in Penticton. Swimming, building sand castles, and just laying in the sun to get the best tan I could. There used to be a few concession stands along the beach that were in the shape of a peach. I think now there is only one left. I used to run along the beach from towel to towel or any shade I could find so as not to burn my feet on the hot sand just to get to those peaches to get a drink and a hotdog. Our campground was right across the street from the beach. We stayed at the same one every summer. Over the years I had actually made friends there. Some that I never saw again and others that I saw every summer. In the eveninge we would go “frogging” at the channel. It looks different now, but back then it was like a big pond to us kids. A place to catch frogs.

I also remember growing up in south Vancouver. We used to live by Sunset Park. In the evenings after dinner all the neighborhood kids would get together and play hide and seek. The big oak tree at the top of the lane was home free. We played in a 2 block zone. At least 30 kids. We played till we would hear our mothers start calling us in one at a time. As the sun went down there would be kids moaning about having to go in for the night. I used to spend many hours playing tennis in the alley. Hitting the neighbors garage door over and over. I wanted to be the best…lol.

There were also the days of going down to the public pool and  ending up with a green tinge  to my blond hair from the clorine and the smell of coppertone lotion all summer long. It didn’t matter where you were, you could always smell it on someone. Then there were the bike rides to Queen E park. It was a long ride but so worth it. Once we got there, we would run thru the fountains to cool off, then get back on our bikes and ride every trail we could find. Finally we would end up at Nat Bailey Stadium to watch a baseball  game thru the fence or grab a hotdog or a drink. Lets not forget the PNE. We used to get a free pass from school with our report cards if we passed that year. It was the highlight of the summer. We knew that summer was almost over when we had been at the PNE.

Life was good back then. It was simple. No worries. The only things we worried about was if are tans would last till Christmas. Now that summer is here again and I am much much older(LOL) I wish I could relive those wonderful memories. I know that I can never be a kid again and I don’t want to be. Sometimes it is fun to go back and look at the old neighborhood and see how its changed and remember the trees I used to climb or sitting on the roof of the school to watch the sun go down and to hear the 9′o’clock gun go off in the distance. There are many good memories and I could keep listing them but that would take forever.

So I say, enjoy your summer with your kids and families and make new memories.

Spa day

Published by purpledragonfly under Beauty, links, product, review

Well I went to my sister-in-law’s house today to have a”spa” morning. There were 8 of us all together. We all had a good time. The products all smelled very nice. We tried a few different things and they all felt good on the skin. Then some of the ladies made some purchases and we had coffee. My sister dropped me off at home. I know that the product is good for most people, but its not for me. Which is too bad. I was hoping that I might of finally found one that was better than the drugstore brands. I really liked the make-up, at first. Once I got home I started to get itchy on my face. I was already feeling my allergies at the party. I know its supposed to be hypo-allergenic, but there is something in the products my body doesn’t like. By the time I got home my allergies were full blown. I had to take my allergy meds and had to shower and wash off all the make-up and lotions. Its been 3 hours and I have finally stopped sneezing and blowing my nose. This was not pleasant. I feel bad that I am reviewing this product in a negative way. For me its not any good. I am very sensitive. I think more than most people.

So, I will rate this brand a 10 out of 10 for looks and packaging. If you like strong scents then this is for you, I rate it a 10 out of 10 for strong smell, otherwise I would say its a 5. Not that the scents are bad, just too strong for me. The make-up is of good quality. As for the foundation I was hoping would be good for me it wasn’t. I turned orangey. I do however like the concealer and will buy it again.

I guess I will just stick with my Dove products and my Lush. I know I can use them and have no reaction to them. Sorry Lucy and Gizy. Wish I could use the stuff.

Passports and family

Published by purpledragonfly under Family, day to day, links

All afternoon I have been sitting here at my computer working on getting my passport information ready so that I will have an easier time going across the border and also traveling to Mexico. It took a few hours to get it done but now all I need to do is get my pictures signed and take it all into the passport office here in town. I’ll do that on Monday.

The rest of the time I burned 12 copies of the DVD we made at christmas time for my dad’s 80th birthday. Yes I know its late. I totally forgot about it. Its done now and I will bring everybody’s copy on Wednesday to the spa party. The rest of the time I have been fixing all the slides I scanned. There are about 550. I need to fix at least half of them. Once they are done I will post them to our Flickr site where all the family can see them and download the ones they want. You will need an account to view them, so go sign up! Flickr.com

As for the family site, it is just about ready to go. A few more things to tweak.
