UPDATE- Colby – Photos-Warning they are graphic

Back in October Colby had an accident at his work. He was run over by a forklift. It had crushed his foot and rolled up his right side squashing his thigh, breaking a few ribs and cracked his shoulder-blade. With time his foot, ribs and shoulder have healed. His thigh has not. It’s been trying heal, but  it swelled and filled with liquid and eventually a blister formed and exploded. This turned into a hole. As the thigh continued to heal and ooze the hole got bigger and deeper. The doctor put a drain tube in and it helped. Lots of liquid came out, at one point 5 liters. Daily it was about 2 cups. Finally in January he was released.

He was home for 2 weeks. Then his dad took him to the ER. The thigh was infected. He has been there since. Two surgeries and still no improvement. The Doctor has admitted that he can’t fix it. Today he was transported to Prince George Hospital to see a plastic surgeon. We are hoping that this will be a better doctor and that the hospital has better facilities.

I’m going to post some photos of his injuries. They are a bit gross. Even I had a hard time seeing them.

My Guys

Gregg and I were at home watching TV saturday evening when the phone rang. It was Matthew. He said ” I have a surprise for you” and wanted to come over to show me. I told him to to come on over and hung up the phone. Gregg’s first reaction was “they got a dog”. Since we know Matthew has been wanting one for a while now. Then Gregg said “They went to Vegas and got married”. Since Matthew and Bree are engaged it was possible. My reaction to this was “They better not!”  Gregg said ” He is coming over to show you the ultrasound pic of the baby”…lol

Anyways, Matthew showed up walked through the door and behind him he has his little brother Colby. What a great surprise! The sneaky guys had planned this 2 weeks ago. Since Colby lives almost 5 hours away I dont get to see him often. Since he graduated school he has been busy with work and trying to get his truck running and just having a busy life. The last time i saw him was at my dad’s funeral in June of 2008.

He spent Sunday with Matthew and yesterday he was with me. Matthew dropped him off in the morning and we decided to surprise my Mom. I called her and told her a white lie, that Gregg needed to go to an appointment close to her place and that we wanted to come over for lunch first and we requested homemade pancakes. This was a bit tricky since Gregg and I are on a low carb diet and pancakes are not on our menu. She did ask if it was ok and I just said we were having a craving.

When we got to her door, I walked in and then Gregg and she was starting to close the door when Colby popped his head in. She shouted with joy and gave him a huge hug. She was very surprised and happy to see him. We had a great lunch, Colby got his fill of Oma’s pancakes. We even talked about taking some and driving by Matthew’s work and teasing him that he didnt get any and eat them in front of him….lol

Then it was time to go. We said goodbye to Mom and hit the road. We took Colby shopping, he needed some new runners and some clothes. Talk about a big foot, 13 wide!  As you can see by the photo, he is a big boy.(just like his dad)

He also got a hair cut. That’s when I finally recognized him again…lol

Thanks to Matthew for making the trip to bring Colby for a visit. So happy that I got to see Colby again. Even though it was only a short visit it was still great to see him.

20 on 20

With everything going on this past weekend I never got a chance to post that Saturday was Colby’s 20 th birthday. Yup, my little boy has grown up fast. Hard to beleive he is 2o. Seems like he grew up a bit too fast. I guess in a way that is true.

I know it can’t be easy living with his Dad. But let’s not start talking about that. It’s old and I’m tired of thinking about all that crap.
He sure does have my cheeks and my fat bottom lip…lol

Happy Birthday Colbster!

I love you!

I finally talked to Colby. He has just been too busy to call. When I asked what he was doing, he said “not much”. LOL, ok so he hasn’t been too busy. He just never remembers to call me. Typical for a growing Boy. He wants to come down for a visit, but doesn’t want to miss out any work. He will try to come down for a weekend next month and I told him he has to come down for his Oma’s 75th Birthday in May.

What else? Oh, as you know Gregg and I went to Matt & Bree’s for dinner on Sunday. We had a very nice time. dinner was good and I brought over some leftover Christmas baking that I had in the freezer for dessert. Their place may be small, but they have it organized well. I guess its our turn to have them here for dinner soon.

As for me, I have spent all yesterday afternoon and still now in a bad IC flare-up. I had a a rough night with all the pain. Even been doubling my meds. I’m not sure why it has started up. I think it might be either the ice tea I have been drinking too much of, or the new lotion I have been using, or just the stress of wondering where and what Colby was doing. Well I don’t have to worry about Colby, he is fine.  I’m not drinking any more iced tea and the lotion was returned to the store yesterday. Now I just wait for the flare-up to stop. This could take hours or weeks.

On a happier note…. I have lost a total of 5lbs this month. Gregg has lost 8lbs. Slowly going down for both of us. 🙂

Been Reading

I’ve kind of been into my books this week. I got a few novels from the library and have been cuddled up under a blanket on the sofa reading. I guess I needed a break from my computer. I’ve also been in a bit more pain lately. I’m back on my Tramacet for my lower back and tail bone. Its been very painful to sit for longer than 45mins at a time. Even getting enough sleep has been difficult. Laying down flat is impossible. These pills are helping, I just don’t want to depend on them.

So in the mean time, I have been reading to keep my mind busy. Doing stuff around the condo. Playing on my Wii. I’m not able to to the Wii Fit since the back pain, but I will start again soon. Gregg and I are both back on the diet. I have lost 2 lbs this week so I’m happy about that. He has joined at work, the Biggest loser program. I’m hoping that it will help him keep motivated. Soon as the weather is better and warmer we can start riding our bikes again.

On other news, Mom is having a great time in California. Says the sunshine is nice and toasty. I sure hope she brings the sunshine back with her. We need some! What else is going on? oh! I talked with Matthew and he has decided to stay in town at his job and is working things out with his girlfriend. I was so happy to hear this news. I really hope that things work out for them. I think she is good for him 🙂

As for Colby, haven’t heard from him in 2 weeks. He did tell me that he had to put his dog to sleep cause he was very sick. I’m sure it was hard to do. He was my dog and when I had to move out I left him there for Colby. They were best buddies. I guess we all have to deal with live and death through out our lives. Its just hard when the decision is put on your shoulder to decide your best friends fate.

Well, the day goes on….

Happy Birthday Colby!

Its birthday time again. WOW! can you believe it, Colby is 19 today! Where does the time go?

You have grown in to a strong caring man.

Colby you always bring tears of joy to my eyes and lots of love to my heart. You are the clown of the family. I love everything that you are and what you will be. There can never be another you. I am so lucky to have you. Happy Birthday Son! I love you so very much!

Weekend Visit

Colby called me friday and surprise surprise he decided to come for a visit. We had a good time. Took him to go see his grandparents which turned out better than I thought it would. Dad was actually very happy and smiling lots and even talking. It was nice to see him like that. We ran in to my sister-inlaw and her daughter in the parking lot when we got there and gave her the wedding photos Gregg had taken that night. After our visit we went to Rogers and rented a video “I am Legend” with Will Smith. Not too bad. Not his best work but it was good. We relaxed and enjoyed our evening.

Gregg just left to take Colby to the bus depot. He has to get back since he now has a full time job as a plumber’s apprentice. He is really enjoying the job. Anyways, the rest of the day I think we will be lazy. I have had a bad attack from my sciatica nerve once again, but this time it has hit both my legs. Its been a very painful few days. I feel a bit better today but not by much. I’m hoping it will get better fast. Hard to sleep when every way I turn it hurts.

The Weekend

It started friday with Colby showing up. We didn’t go see a movie. Instead we Went to the mall and bought Colby a CD and grabbed some KFC to go. Got home and watched TV. Saturday was the wedding. It was a simple ceremony. Very nice. The reception was great. We all had a good time. Some of us had a few drinks. I know I wasn’t the only one. We all danced till the cows came home. Sunday Colby grabbed a bus in the morning and headed back to Kamloops. Gregg and I laid around for the rest of the day. Gregg took a lot of pictures and is organizing and editing them. Soon they will be up on our flickr page.

So that was our weekend. This week I have to clean the deck and get it ready so we can wash it on saturday. Each floor takes turns washing their decks. It gets really dirty over the winter. What else? I guess thats it for now.
