Katie MacAlister – Zen and the Art of Vampires

Katie MacAlister is on of my favorite authors. I have read many of her books and enjoyed every single one of them. This series is called “The Dark Ones”. Zen and the Art of Vampires is book 6. Book 7 will be out in May of this year. I cant wait!

If you are into vampires, romance and a bit of humor I think you will enjoy her novels. This book is about a woman named Pia and she goes on a singles tour to Iceland. There she ends up is a very interesting mess. The end of the book is not what I expected it to be. You will have to read it to find out!

Patricia Briggs – Bone Crossed

This the latest book from the Mercy Thompson Series. I have really enjoyed these. Mercy Thompson is a woman who is a “walker”. She can change into a coyote, but she also has other gifts that she is slowly finding out. She was raised with a pack of werewolves. During the day she is a mechanic. She seems to get into trouble a lot. Or maybe trouble just finds her. Either way, there is always something happening in her neck of the woods. Oh yeah, she has a vampire friend too.

Patricia Briggs is very talented. She has many other books out too. So go check out her website.

These are the books I have read….

Mercy Thompson Series-

  1. Moon Called
  2. Blood Bound
  3. Iron Kissed
  4. Bone Crossed

Alpha and Omega Series-

  1. On the Prowl-This was a short story called Alpha and Omega she introduced in this book.
  2. Cry Wolf

Wolfsbane and Mistletoe was also a bunch of short stories and she has one in here called Star of David.

I am eagerly waiting for the next books.

The Mad Butcher

As you know I want to make Arrachera for dinner on Saturday. Well Gregg had to go to a butcher and order it since its a cut of beef that most stores don’t carry. In the past, we have tried the Mad Butcher and we didn’t like it. Why? Well, the old building they were in was just that, old. Everything about the place screamed POISON!Its was dirty and dingy. The lighting was terrible and the freezers were rusty. We weren’t impressed. I guess that is why the meat that we did buy there turned out to not taste so good.

Anyways, Yesterday afternoon They called to let me know that the skirt steaks were in. So I walked up. Lucky for me its only a 10 minute walk. (It was nice to get out of my condo since if was filled with pot smoke from Dippy below). I got there and was surprised. They had moved to a new building on the other side of the parking lot form the old place. I got to the doors and they swooshed open. No need to touch, that was nice. I walked in and looked around. The first thing I noticed, the lighting, it was bright. THen the cashier, smiling at me and wanting to help me.

So I asked about my order and she walked me over to the butchering area and grabbed it for me. I quickly asked if it could get cut into strips and he said sure but it was already cut thinly. We agreed that I would use it as is and let him know how it turns out. So walked around a bit looking at prices and meats. They have a tiny coffee counter with sandwiches and such. There was also a section of breads and spices.

I was very pleased with everything I saw. I admit that I will go back. Now that the place looks like a real butcher shop. The floors and freezers were spotless. The whole place felt friendly. Plus I like to see the butcher area. If I can’t see the butcher working then I don’t trust the meat. I think thats why I only buy meat from Costco or Save-on Foods. You can see what they are doing.

I bought some marinated chicken while I was there and we will be having it for dinner this evening. Tomato and basil sauce, I hope its yummy!

Michele Bardsley – Broken Heart

This is her forth book out of the new series she is writing. I have really enjoyed these books. There is romance and humor and excitement. Its not an “edge of your sit” book, but its a good read if you just want to get away from real life.

I love to find new authors to read. I can tell you that Michele Bardsley is one that I will keep on reading. Her skills as a writer are worth it. She doesn’t do what some others do as in detailing every single scale on a dragons body. When authors detail too much I lose interest and end up not reading them again. She describes things as the novel proceeds but doesn’t linger and go overboard.

One more thing I enjoyed, the love scenes. They were good but not to a point were I was sick of reading it. When a book has sex every 10 pages, it gets boring. Michele doesn’t do that.

So what’s the Series about? well, its about Vampires, Zombies, Fairies and of course Dragons! Everything happens in a small town called Broken Heart. Yes its all fantasies, but its a good fantasy!

So go to you local library or go buy it and read it.

  1. I’m The Vampire That’s Why
  2. Don’t Talk Back to Your Vampire
  3. Because Your Vampire Said So
  4. Wait Til Your Vampire Gets Home

She also has a few other books to check out. You can follow Her on here or here.

Neutrogena

I have used Neutrogena in the past and found that it was a good product. I don’t know why I stopped using it? Maybe it was the cost? Some of the items can get costly. Anyways, I did a ton of research on anti-wrinkle creams. Out of all of them there were 2 that stuck out. RoC and Neutrogena. So I looked up the companies to find out more.

RoC is a brand that has been around for a very long time. Its a brand that can be trusted. BUT, they still test on animals. So that was an out for me. I don’t like to use products that are tested on animals or have animal products in them.

I looked up Neutrogena and couldn’t find anything anywhere about them doing animal testing. Joy! All the sites I looked at said that they do not test on animals or use animal products. Good!

I just don’t see why we need to test things on animals. Its just not needed anymore.

Well I bought Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti-wrinkle Cream. It has Retinal in it. Simply put, Vitamin A. I’ve been using it since Saturday and so far I haven’t noticed much except that my skin feels very soft. I don’t have many wrinkles to begin with so it will take a bit of time to notice any difference there. I have had a bit of an outbreak of acne on my chin, but that usually happens when I try something new. It clears up in a week. I’ll do an update in a month.

More Books

Book cover of

Book cover via Amazon

I just got back from a nice walk down to the library. Had to return a couple books and picked up 3 more that were waiting for me. I love that I can go online and request almost any book I want. Then get an email when its there to pick up.

So the books I got today are all novels. the first one is “Breaking Dawn” by Stephine Myers. Its the 4th one in the Twilight Series. I have really been enjoying these. There are marked for young adults. Not sure why, since its not all about sex. Maybe its cause of the vampires? LOL. Well whatever the reason, I have enjoyed them.

The second book is called “Cry Wolf” by Patricia Briggs. I have been waiting to read this one ever since I read a short story she did in another book. This is the start of a new series as far as I know.

And the third book is by one of my favorite authors, Katie MacAlister. The book is “Aint Myth-behaving“. She has so many good books. You should really check her out.

Well I’m off to read!!!   Have a great weekend!
